Final Journal Entry

I am now finished with the entire project! I'm so proud of myself and I think that I accomplished everything to the best of my abilities. This was the first time that I used a MAC computer, so it was a bit of a challenge for me, but I think I did a good job. This project helped me develop my skills, but it also taught me so much about digital health and wellness and I learned so much about thinks that I didn't even know existed! I learned new vocabulary like "ergonomics". Over all, this was a very interesting project, and I'm glad I did it and I'm proud of what I've accomplished in IT this year and I hope to continue to do this in IT.

Evaluation

Evaluation

Now that I have completed my final product, I think that it does match my design specification. I made sure that it matched my specification by constantly looking back at my specification and making sure that I had everything in it in my PowerPoint after every step I made. This really helped me keep track of my work and helped me make sure that I was following my design specification guide lines.

My design specification was:

• It has to be about 2 to 4 minutes in length
• It has to show your topic
• It can include images and photographs
• It must leave the audience with an impact and something to think about
• It has to be informative/educational, but still interesting

Even after I finished my PowerPoint, I made sure that it had all of these things before I handed it in. Personally, I think that it has a good time span, displays my topic well, has many images, leaves the audience thinking, and is educational but interesting at the same time. I made a questionnaire for my peers to evaluate my PowerPoint on so that I know what to improve on for next time, and what to keep the same.

1. Do you think that my PowerPoint has a good time span? Why or why not?
Doaa: I think that it does, because it doesn’t give the audience a chance to get bored.
Mohammad: Yes, because I didn’t lose my focus watching it.
Neha: It isn’t too short, and it isn’t too long, it’s the right time.

2. Do you think it talks about Digital Health and Wellness?
Doaa: Yes, because I learned a lot about it.
Mohammad: Yes, you have a lot of information about it.
Neha: I learned so many new words like ergonomics.

3. Did I include a good range of images?
Doaa: You had pictures for everything.
Mohammad: You had two pictures on each slide.
Neha: You had pictures describing everything you were talking about.

4. What impact did my PowerPoint leave you with?
Doaa: I learned so much about things I didn’t know existed!
Mohammad: I’m more aware of ergonomics now.
Neha: I know more now, and I know how to protect myself against the dangers of technology.

5. Was my PowerPoint interesting or boring?
Doaa: You were able to make it educational, but keep our focus.
Mohammad: I learned a lot from it, because it had pictures and it was colorful.
Neha: I liked how you put images in it to attract our attention and your writing style kept us focused and entertained.

Design:
I did my designs by creating a story board, which was fun. I think that I did an ok job on this, because it was a draft and I knew that I would be making changes as I went along. To improve for next time, I think that I should have been more specific and organized in my story board.

Plan:
For my plan, I created a table like an agenda of what I want to accomplish every lesson. I met the deadline, and I tried to follow my table which I succeeded in. I think that having a plan is a good idea because it lets you know what you have to do each period and what you have to work on. I don’t think I can improve on this aspect, because I completed all of the tasks on time from my plan table.

Create:
I had the most fun doing this part. I liked actually creating my PowerPoint and working on it. I liked making something that would educate people about something so serious. The only thing I would change is using MAC computers, because the biggest challenge for me was using a computer I had never use before for such a big project.

16/3/2009

Today I'm almost finished with my final product, which is the create stage. I chose to use PowerPoint because I already know how to use it, and it's easy and quick to use. I think that this project has been pretty much straight forward, but I did have some trouble getting started at the begining because I procastinated. I think that my final product is better than I expected, because I really did try to put in as much detail as I could, and I really tried my best to make it a good PowerPoint.

Obviously, the aim of the whole project is to raise awareness about "digital health and wellness". I think that I achieved this, because my PowerPoint displays the basic meanings of digital health and wellness and how to prevent it, why it's caused, and how to help it. I'm actually proud of what I've accomplished, because IT is usually a hard class for me, because I don't find using computers easy, and this is my first time using a MAC computer instead of a Microsoft one. I think that it's been pretty easy, but I still need to develop my skills further so I am able to improve in the future.

Story board

Investigation

Researching: digital health and wellness
See wiki link: http://digiteen091.flatclassroomproject.org/Digital+Health+and+Wellness

The problem:
Solving the many problems caused by a lack of digital health and wellness is misunderstanding ergonomics and poor knowledge about how to be safe online and using digital health and wellness.

What are the different kinds of ways I can go about solving this problem?
Making people more aware of the dangers, so that they are more alert can solve this problem. Also, finding alternatives and ways around harmful things can solve the problem. Solving this particular problem can be done by educating people about ergonomics, which is the use of keyboards and back posture, which is healthy for us to use while using technology, so we make sure our health isn’t harmed.

What software is suitable to create this video?
My partner and I chose to use PowerPoint to display our video, because it’s easy and fast to use, and works for this particular project.

Design Brief:
I think that this way is the best way to display information about health and wellness, because people will look at something colorful and interesting, and that needs technology. In order to create a final product, I searched for some websites on the Internet to help me out, and I found out a lot of information about digital health and wellness and I found out all the definitions of the words I didn’t know the meaning of.

Design Specifications:
* It has to be about 2 to 4 minutes in length.
* It has to showing your topic.
* It has to be informative/ educational, but still interesting.
* It can include images and photographs.
* It must leave the audience with an impact and something to think about.

Digital health and wellness

1. Overview/Description of the various aspects of the topic.

Awareness of the dangers and benefits of using technology, physically and mentally.

2. Background of the topic including specific real examples.

Digital health and wellness means being smart about how to act while using technology and online. People should know the risks they are taking before they try using technology. Specific examples of digital health and wellness examples could be getting arthritis by using the wrong type of keyboard. New types of keyboards have been created by Microsoft, in order to prevent arthritis. Also, back pain is a major affect that typing has on a person. Many people suffer from back pain because of the way they sit, and the way that they type while using the computer. New chairs have also been made in order to ensure that people are comfortable while while using technology, and making smart and healthy choices. There are also tips about how to sit straight and how to have good posture while using the computer. Ergonomics is the way to sit up straight, the way your eyes should be looking at the screen, where your legs should be. All these things should be done to ensure full safety while using technology. moz-screenshot.jpgmoz-screenshot-1.jpgimages.jpg

3. Social / ethical aspects of the topic including how real people and communities have been positively or negatively affected and legal consequences

none

4. Possible solutions to the problems that have emerged.

1. new keyboards that prevent arthritis
2. ways of sitting and helping posture and sitting ways
3. new seats designed to help the back while sitting on the computer.
4. having your arms in the right position while using the keyboard.

5. Guideline(s) or rule(s)

1. every 10-20 minutes turn your head away from the screen.
2. do not sit too close to the screen.
3. use enough light on the screen so that you can see everything more clear and make it easier for you eyes. yet too much light can lead to headaches.
